Construction of the Second Phase of the Continental Plant in Kaunas is Completed
Continental, based in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ), has completed the second stage of its expansion. CONTESTUS UAB managed the construction and provided technical supervision for the project. The factory’s construction was carried out by the contracting company UAB Veikmės statyba, while the building’s design was continued by BE LIVE (formerly known as Baltic Engineers). Following this expansion phase, the total investment in the Kaunas plant amounts to more than EUR 190 million.
The Continental plant in Kaunas is already LEED Gold certified, so the same high standards were applied to the new areas as the company expanded. This expansion phase has been designed according to the latest sustainability requirements. In addition, state-of-the-art equipment and management systems were provided.
It was a complex project with several structures and types of buildings, perfectly illustrating how proper cooperation between all construction actors makes large-scale and complex projects possible. The warehouse area, together with the warehouse office, expanded to 3,000 m², the new production area and the main office to over 7,000 m². Additionally, a separate plastic injection moulding building of 2,250 m² was built.
Everyone worked towards a common goal, and challenges and issues were dealt with swiftly and smoothly. From the perspective of the CONTESTUS UAB / Veikmės statyba UAB / BE LIVE team, in the construction management and supervision / construction / design of the factory expansion, every solution and detail of the project was important in its own way. The supervision, construction, and design solutions required a lot of attention, knowledge, and experience, drawing on good construction and design practices.
It is also worth mentioning that all project participants were involved and solved all problems that arose during the construction process in an efficient and team-oriented manner. Some of the good practices and valuable lessons learned from this project have already been successfully applied in our daily activities. We are pleased that all participants in the construction worked together smoothly and were focused on a successful end result.
