Recreational boat factory will expand in Kaunas district: boats up to 17 meters long will be produced
The development project of Norwegian recreational boat manufacturer MAREX Boats is gaining momentum in Kaunas district – the project has been assessed and passed expert evaluation and all project documentation has been submitted to obtain a building permit. Once completed, the new 10,000 sq.m. boat assembly facility will enable the production of even larger recreational vessels in Lithuania, using advanced technological processes, with some of the energy being generated from geothermal wells.
The new production building will complement the existing MAREX Boats infrastructure in Ilgakiemis, Kaunas district. The project is being implemented by BE Constructive, a construction management company that is part of the BE LIVE Group, providing contractor selection and project management (PCM) services.
“Until now, we have not had the capacity in Lithuania to manufacture three-deck ships that are almost 17 meters long – this requires not only larger spaces, but also infrastructure specially adapted for the manufacture of recreational vessels, such as a basin for testing the buoyancy of ship hulls and a demonstration area for customers, where we will be able to present various boat models, as well as Compact Twin vertical automatic warehouses to ensure uninterrupted production. The building will be heated and cooled by a geothermal system, and we will compensate for the increased energy demand by expanding our solar panel park. That is why we decided to build a smart factory, and we chose our reliable partners BE LIVE to implement it,” says Saulius Pajarskas, CEO of MAREX Boats.
Construction work on the 2,8 hectare site will commence immediately after building permit is obtained. Construction managers, who are involved in the process at an early stage, assist the client in selecting a contractor even before the permit is obtained. The tender process runs parallel to the design process, thus significantly shortening the overall project timeline for the client. The insights gained during the tender process were used to improve design solutions, thus optimizing the budget and shortening the implementation time of technological processes.
By applying the PCM methodology, the work will be executed more efficiently and smoothly. Upon completion of this phase, the total area of the MAREX Boats production complex in Ilgakiemis will expand to 28 000 sq.m.
Smooth selection of a contractor is one of the most critical stages in executing industrial projects. A well-managed process ensures optimal quality, scheduling, and cost control. According to experts, close collaboration between technologists, designers, and contractors is essential in such projects. Coordination of their work is ensured by experienced construction management professionals.
“Representing the client, we will not only assist in the smooth selection of a contractor, but also accompany them through to the full completion of the project. We hope our contribution will enable the project to be realized in the shortest possible time and ensure a smooth start to the production processes,” says Darius Kvedaras, Director of BE Constructive.
BE Constructive is part of the BE LIVE Group, one of the largest design, consulting, and construction process management companies in Lithuania. Having started over 20 years ago in engineering consultancy and renovation, the group now provides comprehensive services—from concept to completion—including design, construction, and project management. Among more than 500 completed projects are major industrial facilities such as Continental, ESCO, Dovista, and Virpil, which were all realized using the integrated service model EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management).
